I want to purchase an air compressor what should I look for?
I would like to know what specs should I look for to run my industrial pneumatic speed sander its a 4560 Hutchins I only want to use for about two to three hours .I do some body work on weekends.
I agree that bigger is better when it comes to compressors. I’ve had a few smaller ones, like the ten gallon ones. They never were big enough to keep up with my air tools.
OH! One other thing, steer clear of any compressor that say "oilless". From my personal experience, the compressors that don’t use oil overheat and break down very quickly. I’ll never buy another compressor if I don’t see a dipstick to check the oil.

If you are only running one tool at a time a small one will work fine. probably around 5 gallon 125 psi.

Industrial rated sanders require quite a bit of air. Pressure and volume will make it work either so so or as it was intended. I use a Dewalt up right compressor rated at 200psi and 90 psi constant and I run a sander and numerous other air tools. Including a 650 ft lb torque impact gun. Cost about $369.00 but well worth it, not too noisy and is move able, has wheels on it. My small one Sanborn 2 1/2 hp 33 gal did not keep up with any of the tools. For sustained use of 2 to 3 hrs, don’t go small.

I agree with Richard. go big! Sanders are very hungry for CFM. If you get a smaller one you will be sstanding around mostly waiting for it to catch up.
