Can I use my air compressor and a spray gun for the following paint jobs?
All interior work:
I want to prime and latex paint some walls.
I also want to finish oil painting the basement cement floor.
The air compressor is an oiless 8 gallon 150 psi electric model
It easily powers an impact gun
has a regulator knob and two gauges.
The primer is the thickest of the liquids which I want to spray.
I got a HVLP Spray Gun
It has a 2.0 mm tip, All metal construction, and Brass Fan Nozzle with one quart dripless cup. Runs at 20 to 45 psi with 1/4 nps inlet. It has a Air Control, Spray Control, and Fluid Control for making adjustments.
Any advice is appreciated.
The HVLP is the way to go and I would keep the psi down to 30 or so to control the overspray. I also think that your 8 gallon tank is sufficient. It might work the compressor a little overtime because of the constaint drain of the sprayer, but for a one time deal I think will be fine.
I’d do it. Good luck.

it should work but make sure psi settings are correct

You need the ‘CFM`s of the compressor and the gun
to answer to that question.
If you know the pressure and the CFM you know the
power required. Pressure alone tells you little.

all i can say is that spray painting indoors is horrible. i just invested on a flip house with my friend and we had a sprayer with built in compressor. we started doing the walls and everything in the house was smogged with paint even with the doors and windows open. this will put an overspray on everything in the house. we quit and used rollers and brushes. we used the machine for painting the outside house which is what i think it’s intended for. now with oil base we couldn’t use that on our machine because i believe it will clog all lines when you try to clean and you’ll never fully get the oil base paint residue out of the line. which means you could never use it for waterbase again. stick with rollers and brushes indoors. spray gun outdoors. you can oil paint your basement floor with a roller attached to mop stick and finish it like nothing. it’s the screw in kind.

My guess from the size of the tank, you’ll be waiting a lot for recovery. You’ll be refilling the cup an awful lot too. You’d be better off with an airless type spraygun that you could rent. Spraying the floor will be difficult, tipping the gun to get an even coat. Depending on the size of the room and floor, I think you’re going to be at it for a long time.

Aircraft painter for 20+ yrs.
When you go to spray primer if it,s latex use furanol mixed with it look at Hommers depot for it it,s to make thick paint easyer to spray, won,t alter the paint, as for the oil look into a prod. for thinging the oil and should have no prob.
